For employees of self-insured companies, claims examiner licensing requirements vary significantly by state, and certain exemptions often apply. While approximately 34 states and the District of Columbia require a license for claims examiners, about 17 states do not. For states that do license, the path usually involves a pre-licensing course and passing a state exam. Click on the states below to check their licensing requirements.
